Straw Hat Pizza's History

Straw Hat Pizza is at a new location in Modesto. But Straw Hat began serving its pioneering pizza fifty years ago—in 1959. Even back in 959 Californians wanted a lighter pizza. Satisfying that appetite with fresher, lighter ingredients over a flaky crust, Straw Hat Pizza offered different combinations of toppings—pizza creations people hadn't seen before. Always ahead of the curve, and ten years after its first restaurant in San Leandro, Ca, Straw Hat added their luscious salad bar in 1969. Along with their expansion up and down the California Coast, Straw Hat added another menu innovation in the Seventies—the Hot Hat Stuffed Sandwich. This quickly caught on and became a best seller and a Straw Hat brand staple. A dominant player among West Coast Pizza Restaurants, Straw Hat has always maintained its commitment to quality, clean restaurants, and people pleasing pizza.
